What Size Luggage Should I Choose?

Posted by Luggage Hub on

Luggage stores offer suitcases in a variety of sizes, designs and shapes. Finding the best luggage size for your specific needs will depend on the amount of luggage you will be taking with you on holiday. The best size for you will also be dictated by your travelling style, and your destination. Let’s also not forget about the airline weight restrictions on luggage size for domestic and international travel.

So, what should you consider before buying the right size luggage?

  • Destination

Your luggage size depends a lot on your destination. If, for example, you are going overseas and know that you will be lugging your suitcase around, you may want to choose two sizes of luggage. Think about getting hand luggage for daily use, and a larger suitcase that you can keep in the hotel.

  • The items you’ll be packing

The items you want to bring with you on your trip will determine the size requirements of your luggage. If you’re planning on taking a summer trip, you will need something smaller or less bulky if you’re merely taking shorts and tees. Meanwhile, if you’re travelling to a winter destination, be mindful of the fact you’ll need to pack lots of layers and large jackets/jumpers.

  • Airline restrictions

As you check in, airlines will weigh your luggage to see if you fit within their specific restrictions. There’s no one-size fits all approach with weight guidelines, so you’ll have to check with your airline exactly what their requirements are. Normally, the maximum weight you can bring on is around 32kg, but this depends on the type of fare you have booked, and the airline’s guidelines.

  • Time

The length of your trip will determine how much you will be taking with you. Will your trip be a weekend away, or will you by staying at a destination for longer than just a couple of weeks? Do you even need a checked-in bag or will cabin luggage be enough for the number of items you’re taking with you?

  • Budget

When it comes to luggage, you can end up spending far more than you need to. Think about where you are going and what you will need to take with you, before making a choice. However, keep in mind that high-quality luggage – such as a hard aluminium – will be able to withstand the rigours of multiple trips.
